Son of a Rich

The majority of early B.C. Rich guitars were neck-throughs, however, some of the main models were also built with bolt-on necks. As early as 1976 or ’77,Bernie C. Rico also began to assemble some American-made economy versions of his guitars.

One of these was the Son of a Rich, which was basically a bolt-neck Bich. I have owned two of these. At least some of these had necks and bodies which were made by Wayne Charvel, who was in the parts business at the time.

The Charvel necks would be carved on his machine and sent over the the B.C. Rich factory. The necks would then undergo a final shaping to Rico’s design, and then be fitted to the bodies.

I can`t tell you how much I LOVE the neck on these guitars. Features include 2 volume knobs and one tone knob. Dimarzio pickups. They are 10% smaller than a regular Bich with 21 frets. Grover imperial tuners. My hardtail came with a Badass bridge. A Schaller tremolo and locking nut on my other.

A deep and dark tone monster I`ve found these to be well suited to jazz, country, metal or any other style of music. I`ve found the Son of a Rich a mainstay in my arsenal I`d never part with. Check out the Son of a Rich links to see if you can add one phenomenal piece of tonal art to your arsenal. An unheard of price for a hand made piece of guitar history!
